Doubt is the beginning,
not the end of wisdom.
After being instructed to choose an aphorism for a four-part project in my Graphic Voice class, I landed on “Doubt is the beginning, not the end of wisdom.” I began to work to create a single greyscale poster in what I believed at that moment was in my personal graphic voice, keeping in mind that much of my design work is type-based.
Instructor: Paul Sahre
For the second part, we were instructed to use our aphorism and make ten greyscale posters based on emotions: angry, blank, chaotic, confused, conservative, deceptive, generic, liberal, loud, and nonsensical.

The next part consisted off adding color and creating a new way of communicating each poster’s respective emotion, all while exploring my graphic voice. I found a new love for textures and was inspired by psychedelic styles.

The final part of the project required abandoning the emotions originally assigned to each poster in order to freely push them to my graphic voice’s limit. I decided to implement my own hand lettering as well other mediums like paint and chalk so as to explore this typographic style I had been developing.
